In February, the LFLA Poetry Club organized a poetry booth for Lunar New Year along with students learning Mandarin, who had booths where students could play many different games like picking up jellybeans with chopsticks, a fan-favorite. The poetry booth was almost as popular among students, with many trying their best to write poems to win a delicious taro or sesame dumpling provided by the graceful Mr. Xia. We all put a lot of hard work into this booth, especially Abigail and Therina, who know Mandarin. There was a total of 150 different characters for people to choose from, and poets had to successfully write a poem with the correct structure and rhyme scheme of the classic Chinese poem we chose. Thank you to everyone who participated because it definitely wasn’t easy to rhyme lines in a language you don’t know and a big thank you to Mr. Xia for suggesting this idea and helping us realize it.

I fly from sleep

Your morning fruit

Makes cats love dogs

Who will draw goats

-Laeticia

The moon loves two pretty stars

You, who believes in the blue sky

See above, accept what arrives

When you will give the blossom a kiss

-Mme. Petauton

The woman’s morning of God at five

Stay to sing with your father at nine

Talk to the dog and bring marriage up

A day with men gets fish

-Lucia

I see the evening song flower

When spring arrives with quiet blossoms

Her stars come to what kiss?

Believe their love above the summer

-Polaris

Epic horses in the winter

Run from big cats, but

They sleep under the pink tree

Morning they will accept, yet not see

-Anna

Sing up at the God above you

With friendship of what nine fish

At night, accept writing blossoms

People believe in very big fish

-Amelia

Small goats make seven cheeses

The big horse who will arrive

Pretty dogs die under the sun

Black cats love people with pride

-Gigi

With men, drink and get married

Older brother, father, younger sister, mother, woman

In the summer evening, a quiet kiss

They sing petals of my heart

-Alex
