With their first game coming up, we asked a few of the girls from the basketball team some questions and their thoughts on the upcoming game: What’s been their favorite moment with the team so far? How are they feeling about the upcoming match? What’s the funniest thing Coach Edwards has said? And why did they join the team? Here’s what they had to say!
1. What’s been your favorite moment with the team so far?
Lilly-Rose: When we had a pizza party. And when we make free throws and encourage each other.
Soleil: When someone makes a free throw after we have been running a lot. *
Amelia: Whenever Beau comes and helps run the drills.
Ava: My favorite moment was every moment when Beau was practicing with us.
Phoebe: Like Amelia said, when Beau and Josie come.
Alexandra: When Beau practices with us.
* Whenever someone misses a free throw, we run two laps. If we make it, we get to go home.
2. How are you feeling about the upcoming match?
Lilly-Rose: I feel excited. We’re gonna cook. We will win!
Soleil: I feel like we will laugh a lot and it’s our first game so a lot of funny oopsies.
Amelia: Can’t wait to see our potential ‘cause we’re awesome.
Ava: I am excited to have this first game with my team and my D1 prospects.
Phoebe: I’m excited for the first match but also scared because it’s my first basketball game; hopefully I get to be a benchwarmer. Alexandra: Each one of us is dropping 30 points.
3. What’s the funniest thing Coach Edwards has said?
Lilly-Rose: Hmm… I don’t know. He’s just always funny.
Soleil: “Wrong sport, Ma’am” or when I miss a shot badly and he goes, “Ma’am, what was that?” Amelia: “Ma'am.” I just love when he says Ma’am.
Ava: I don’t listen to Mr. Edwards… I’m lowkey just spaced out the majority of the time.
Phoebe: Any time he sees something one of us does and makes his confused/"what was that" face.
4. Why did you join the team?
Lilly-Rose: I joined the team because I have been playing basketball since I was 7. It’s my sport. I love it, and I played it with my friends before and wanted to join a club.
Soleil: I joined because Mr. Edwards made me.
Amelia: Mr. Edwards pestered me throughout middle school, so I joined and had fun, so I stayed.
Ava: I joined the team because I had an amazing time last year and I love to play basketball.
Phoebe: I joined the team because Mr. Edwards made me, but now I like basketball.
Alexandra: I joined because I’ve been playing basketball my whole life, and because it’s good for college.
