Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul Fight

On Friday, November 15th, 2024, the 58-year-old former undisputed heavyweight world

champion Mike Tyson fought the 27-year-old Youtuber turned boxer Jake Paul. They fought

eight two-minute rounds in the AT&T stadium in Arlington, Texas. A total of 72,300 attended

the match and at its peak 65 million households streamed it from home. Jake Paul entered the stadium in a customized Chevy Dually with his brother Logan Paul, and Mike Tyson chose to walk out to the ring in his classic bathrobe. During the first few rounds, Tyson appeared to be quick and swift, but that momentum faded quickly. After just a few rounds, Tyson became sluggish and tired, and although many viewers believed that his age would not affect him, it clearly did. Spectators also noticed Tyson repeatedly biting his glove, which is believed to have been an intimidation tactic to remind Paul that he bit Evander Holyfield's ear off. In the end, Tyson was only able to connect 18 punches in the eight rounds, whereas Jake Paul connected 78.

The fight was underwhelming, lacked action, and left many fans disappointed and

unsatisfied; many of them even left or stopped watching before the fight had finished. Viewers

were waiting for this fight for roughly eight months but to everyone's disappointment the fight

was boring. Mike Tyson appeared exhausted and defeated throughout the fight, and the difference between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson’s stamina was evident. Jake Paul was declared the winner by a unanimous decision.

Many viewers left with dissatisfaction; however, the incredible fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, where Taylor claimed yet another victory, more than made up for Tyson and Paul’s lackluster fight. They both fought exceptionally well in the ten rounds of their match. It was difficult to predict who would win throughout the fight; Serrano delivered more punches, but Taylor countered effectively. In the fourth round, Serrano was hit just below the right eyebrow that left her with a large cut that got progressively worse in the next six rounds. It was an extremely close fight, but Taylor was decided to be the victor after all three judges scored the bout 95-94 in her favor. 

It was clear that most viewers were expecting to see the old Mike Tyson; however, that was not the case, as it was noticeable that his age did affect his performance. Although their fight was weak, both Mike Tyson and Jake Paul gained a significant amount of wealth and fame due to this fight, with Paul gaining 40 million dollars and Tyson making 20 million.
